Throughout my journey in life, I’ve continually felt a sense of calling to help others. This is something that I’ve endeavored to do as much as possible – whether through volunteer work or by simply being there for people -- lending an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. I’m constantly fascinated by people -- their unique stories, lives and ambitions; their struggles, realities, hopes and dreams. I’ve been told I’m a good listener, smart and sensitive and am very proud of those traits.
As humans, I believe we all share much in common, yet I also cherish and embrace our differences. After all how boring would the world be if we were all the same?
From my early years in suburban Long Island to the present day in coastal California, life's been a remarkable journey so far. Along the way, I've been extremely fortunate to have visited 20 countries and over half the U.S.
After growing up outside the hustle and bustle of New York City, I headed south to attend a small liberal arts college in NC. This provided a nice change of scenery, while enabling me to continue my formal education.
In college I made many great friends and got to learn and experience a lot from people of different backgrounds, races, ethnicities and orientations.
During college I was privileged to work on restoring hurricane-damaged homes during spring breaks through a rescue mission. I served as a literacy tutor at a juvenile detention center and as a big brother/mentor at an elementary school among other things.
In 1993 I was extremely blessed to spend a semester in London. It was during that time I developed a passion for travel that has never died and unlikely ever will. But more on that in a minute…
After college I worked in telecommunications in Greensboro, NC and later in Stamford, CT. After moving back north, I enjoyed the change of scenery that Stamford provided, but was very unhappy with my work at the time. This took a definite toll. More on that in a minute too…
While in New England, I volunteered at a telephone crisis line and also made outbound calls to seniors and shut-ins, which was highly rewarding. This continued to reinforce my sense of purpose to help others. It also helped me to deal with the difficult circumstances in which I found myself at the time on a personal and professional level.
Ultimately, I realized that life’s too short to stay in a situation (job, relationship, physical place, etc.) if you’re not happy. So I made a decision I’ll never regret to take some much-needed time off to travel and fulfill a dream to backpack in Europe for the summer of 1998. It was an experience of a lifetime that I’ll never forget!
After returning from abroad, I settled again in NY and began working in the insurance business. Initially, I expected to be there all of 6 months to save up and travel more. That was over 10 years ago...
It’s funny how things work out sometimes. For over a decade I stayed in the industry, which has its perks, including stability, security and growth potential.
During that time I learned a great deal and was able to squeeze in another two-month trip to Europe and spend some time Down Under, visiting New Zealand and Australia, taking up temporary residence and occasional employment in Sydney after the Olympics in 2000.
That was also part of my grand plan to get out west and fulfill another life-long dream of living in southern California. Ever since the fateful day in early 2001 I hopped a Greyhound from LA, San Diego has been my home and constant source of inspiration.
Life's been a continual evolution and blossoming through the years. Like a fine wine, it continues to improve, to ripen and mature with time. I owe so much of my happiness and success to having met so many great people along the way, formed wonderful friendships and relationships and found the love of the my life!
Life coaching is a logical progression that represents the next chapter in my story. Having done and accomplished so much of what I’ve set out to achieve, I find it only fitting to devote some of my skills and experience to help others reach their goals and dreams.
I would welcome the chance to do this for you. I truly wish you all the happiness and success in the world. Please feel free to drop me a line any time and share whatever’s on your mind.
Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me.
I look forward to hearing from you. May our paths cross some day.
